Eugene Francis Weckherlin

Eugene (Gene) Francis Weckherlin, 89, of Bridgeton, MO, passed away on February 7, 2024. He was born on June 19, 1934, in St. Louis, MO. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nancy (nee Shone) Weckherlin; his parents Edward Weckherlin and Isabelle (nee Berardino) Weckherlin; sister Bernice Haberstroh (Marty), brothers Bob Weckherlin (Betty) and Ed Weckherlin (Sue). He is survived by his 2 children Lisa Humphrey and James (Amy) Weckherlin. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren: Gabrielle and Nicholas Humphrey, and Ellie, Luke, and Olivia Weckherlin. Gene was born in St. Louis, MO, as the third of four children. He graduated from Normandy High School in 1953. His youth was filled with the joy that being in a close, loving family brings, including being surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. These relationships brought happiness to Gene his entire life. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he honorably served his country during the end of the Korean War. In 1967 Gene married Nancy and soon thereafter moved to Bridgeton, MO, where he was a resident for over 50 years. During this time, they raised their two children. Gene worked for General Electric and was a member of the local Electrical Workers union. After retirement, he worked part-time for the Special School District as a bus driver. His passion was fishing, and he enjoyed frequent fishing trips with his brothers and cousins. He was an avid golfer known for being consistently straight and a good scorer, if not the longest hitter. Making homemade ravioli became a family event, full of fun and laughter. The local casinos were also a weakness of his, if only for his nickels, but he got his money’s worth from their all-you-can-eat crab legs to make it even. Gene will be remembered as a warm, kind, and caring person who deeply loved his wife Nancy, was so proud of his children, and as a kind and caring person who found joy in being with others. In celebration of Gene’s life, visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 2/13, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3130 Parkwood Ln, Maryland Heights, MO 63043. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Procession and a burial service will be performed at Valhalla Cemetery, 7600 St Charles Rock Rd, St. Louis, MO 63133.
