Richard Zander

Richard Allan Zander, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on October 22, 2024. He was 83. Born on April 5, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, Rich cherished life's simple pleasures and found joy in the moments he shared with his loved ones. Rich was a devoted husband to his wife, Sue (Eggers) Zander, whom he married on August 16, 1968. Their bond has endured throughout the last 60 years. Richard's pride in his children and grandchildren knew no bounds, their accomplishments bringing him immense joy. His love for his family extended beyond blood, as he considered his friend Jay Fruend to be like a son. Rich loved spending his winters in Clewiston, FL and fishing at Lake Okeechobee. He loved a good party, especially with live music and ice cold beer. He had great memories of visiting his favorite cities of Las Vegas, NV, New Orleans, LA, and Branson, MO. Rich and Sue spent their time on vacations searching for that special antique treasure. In 1972, Rich opened St. Charles Pawn Shop and Zander Jewelry in St. Charles, MO. He worked hard there to achieve his goal of providing for his family. He was dedicated to doing the best he could for his customers. His friendships were important to him, and provided a lifetime of lasting bonds. Rich was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Adele Stole, his parents, William Zander and Margaret (Decker) Zander, and brother, Bill Zander. Survivors include his wife, Sue Zander of St. Charles, Missouri; daughters: Nikki (Dan) Holmes of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Kimberly Zander of St. Peters, Missouri; brother, Bob (Pat) Zander of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren: Andrew Holmes, Kelly Holmes, Lauren Yarusso and Macey Yarusso; as well as many, many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place at the Indoor Mausoleum at Valhalla Cemetery, 7600 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Louis, Missouri. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 20 Westbury Drive in St. Charles, MO, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
