Shirley Ann Boone

Shirley Ann Boone, a beloved member of the community, passed away on January 21, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on February 6, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Templeton and Abbye Ella (Crawford) Woods. Shirley resided in University City, Missouri, at the time of her passing. Shirley's legacy extends far beyond her earthly existence. She dedicated her life to education, leaving an indelible mark on young minds for over four decades as a passionate and committed teacher. Her unwavering dedication to her students and her commitment to providing them with an exemplary education will forever be remembered. In addition to her illustrious career as an educator, Shirley had a remarkable talent for playing bridge. Masters of the game would eagerly challenge her skills, always recognizing her as a formidable opponent. Her love for bridge extended beyond the competition, as she often gathered with friends and fellow enthusiasts to engage in spirited matches, creating cherished memories and lasting friendships. Shirley actively participated in giving back to the community through her involvement with CHUMS, a local community service group. Whether she was volunteering her time and lending a helping hand to those in need, she consistently exemplified the values of compassion and empathy. She was also a proud member of the esteemed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where she found sisterhood and lifelong connections. Shirley Ann Boone will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her devoted husband James Boone, son, Michael (Thomas Doss), sister Diane Johnson, as well as several nieces and nephews. Their grief at her passing is shared by all those whose lives she touched. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Shirley's life and honor her memory during a gathering time, to be held on January 29, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Valhalla Chapel of Memories, 7600 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63133, where loved ones will have the opportunity to pay their respects and share heartfelt remembrances. Shirley will privately be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on January 30, 2024 by Valhalla Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Shirley's honor to a charity close to her heart, supporting education or community service, a cause she passionately championed throughout her life.
