Shirley Weir

Shirley J. Weir (née Svoboda), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted community volunteer, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and love. She was born on August 15, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arthur J. and Cecil (Alford) Svoboda. Shirley shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, James P. Weir, who preceded her in death. Together they built a loving family and enjoyed a life rich with travel, friendship, and cherished memories. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Tammy) Weir and Keith (Lisa) Weir; her grandchildren, Emily (Michael) Hernandez, Kelsey Weir, Brett (Kendall) Weir, Chandler Weir, and Sheridan (Bronson) Byrne; and her great-grandchildren, Ava Hernandez, Peyton Hernandez, Emersyn Payne, Adley Payne, Price Weir, and Mack Weir. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, David, Carol, Darcy, and Corey. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arthur Q. Svoboda; her brother-in-law, Pat White; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth Svoboda (née Lamwersiek) and Joanne White (née Weir). An adventurous spirit, Shirley had a lifelong passion for travel. She and Jim visited all fifty states, traveled throughout Canada, and enjoyed a memorable trip overseas. Her faith was central to her life, and she dedicated countless hours to volunteering through various organizations at her church. She also faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 32 years, touching the lives of many in her community. Shirley and her husband Jim especially enjoyed spending time together on the golf course, sharing a pastime that brought them both great happiness. Shirley will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, unwavering devotion to her family, and commitment to serving others. Her warm smile, caring heart, and steadfast faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Ballwin, Missouri. A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Ballwin, Missouri. Entombment will be at Valhalla Mausoleum in St Louis, Missouri.
