Thelma F. Cox 1923-2015 Thelma Frances Cox was called home by her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ on January 16, 2015. She passed at Cedarcrest Manor in Washington, Mo. Thelma, daughter of Charles Stephenson and Thelma nee Martin was born February 23, 1923 in St. Louis, Mo. She was united in marriage to Charles Olmstead on August 26, 1939. Three daughters, Carolyn Faye, Barbara Lee & Charlene Joyce, blessed the marriage. Thelma was a youth Sunday School teacher and choir member at Mary Ann Baptist Church in St. Ann, Mo. during her young married years. From the mid 1960’s through the early 1980’s she was employed by McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft. During her retirement years, Thelma traveled the world & wintered in Tucson, Arizona where she developed wonderful friendships. Mrs. Cox was active in the Senior Adult ministry at First Baptist Church, Ferguson, Mo. and most recently at First Baptist Church of Washington, Mo. where she was known as “Grandma Thelma”. Thelma is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Olmstead, her second husband, Fred Laurey, and her beloved third husband, Arthur Cox, her parents, Charles Stephenson, Thelma nee Martin and her stepmother Virginia Stephenson, one daughter Charlene Joyce and her sister Viola Wilson. Thelma is survived by 2 daughters, Carolyn Lawson of Pacific, Mo. and Barbara Johnson of De Soto, Ks. 11 grandchildren, Karen King & husband Ed of Knob Lick, Mo., Laura Powers & husband Richard of Kansas City, Ks., Brian James & wife Susan of De Soto, Ks., Paula Scott of Kansas City, Ks., Charlene Myscka & husband Bryan of Killeen, Tx., Charles James & wife Christy of De Soto, Ks. Debra Matlock & husband Dean of Marthasville, Mo., John Powers & wife Kathy of Wildwood, Mo., Bob Schneider & wife Jennifer of Washington, Mo. and David Schneider & wife Anne of Washington, Mo. She leaves a plethora of other loved ones including 28 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, one brother, William Stephenson of Spokane, Washington, and one sister, Leona Genz, of Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 22 at First Baptist Church, Washington, MO 111 East 14th Street, Washington, MO 63090, & from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, January 23. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 23 at First Baptist Church, Washington, MO. There will be a grave side service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 23 at Valhalla Cemetery , 7600 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Louis, MO 63133. Memorials are appreciated; to First Baptist Church, 111 East 14th St. Washington, MO 63090.
