July 9, 1924 - June 4, 2021
Billie Wintemberg, passed away at home Friday evening, June 4, 2021, at the age of 96. She was born in Belfast Northern Ireland and moved to “the States” in 1948. She met the love of her life and beloved husband of 50 years, the late Walter Maurice Wintemberg, at J.L. Hudson department store in Detroit, Michigan where they worked. They married in 1950 and had 6 children. Billie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She loved her extended family in Ohio, Texas, and across the ocean in Ireland. She is survived by her children, Harold (Nancy), Glenn (Brenda), Russell, Barbara, Carl and Danny (Barbara), her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Billie loved to tap dance and was an avid bowler. She used to sing and dance for the USO to entertain the troops. She had several hobbies including ceramics and jigsaw puzzles but most of all she enjoyed knitting and created many lap blankets for cancer patients. She liked watching the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals and was a fan for many years. She enjoyed her chocolate and had to have a “cuppa tea” throughout the day. She was involved in her church, Mt. Zion UMC, and was known for many years, by many people, as the “Donut Lady.” Billie touched countless lives and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Billie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
