Donald A. Reddan

Donald A. Reddan, born in St. Louis, MO on August 1, 1925, passed away on July 8, 2024, in St. Peters, MO. Donald is survived by his children, Mark J. Reddan (Birdie), Lisa M. Reddan, and Michael P. Reddan (Staci dec.); his sisters, Annamarie Svoboda and Judith Keran; his son-in-law Rob (Lynn dec.) Owen; his grandchildren Sean O'Toole (Theresa), Danielle Ready (John), John Reddan (Aneesa); Christina Omerovic (Mirnes), David, Jack, Sophia, Joseph, Sadie and John Reddan; his great grandchildren Adalyn, Connor, Riley, Shane, Everett, Mia and Kem; dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to the countless number of people who were lucky enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn A. Reddan; daughters, Lynn C. (Rob) Owen and Lori A. O'Toole; his daughter-in-law Staci (Michael) Reddan; his parents, John and Sophia Reddan; and siblings, Mary Reddan, John Reddan, Rita Polak, William Reddan, Delores "Jean" Howell, and Patricia Van Rhein. Don epitomized the Greatest Generation. His love for God, his family, and his country were unsurpassed. He grew up during the depression with 8 siblings and learned the meaning of hard work, sacrifice, and togetherness. He served his country proudly in the Pacific from 1942-1946 in the U.S. Navy. After the war he used his benefits to earn a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis then worked at McDonnell Douglas for over 40 years as an advanced design engineer. Don was a Branch Chief Engineer for the F-15 and F/A-18 fighters. He was a man of a wide range of talents. An accomplished golfer, tennis player, and dancer, especially with the love of his life, Marilyn. There was nothing he couldn’t repair or build and he was always helping neighbors who needed his talent. The only thing he was better at than any of those things was being an outstanding example to his family and friends of what a good Catholic man of character and virtue looked like. Kind, respectful, patient, compassionate, and loving were just some of his many traits. He was also very generous, not just with money, but with his time and kindness for others. Most of all he was always grateful for what he had. His children’s education and that of his grandchildren was paramount and he was always reading and teaching them. He convinced all of them that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to. His sense of humor was another great trait and was evident until his final days with us. Don lived a life that mattered, he lived a life of love. Thank you for sharing that with us. We miss you so much. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 3860 N Hwy 67, Florissant, MO 63034, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by a short service at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Valhalla Funeral Chapel and Cemetery, 7600 St Charles Rock Rd, St. Louis, MO 63133.
